A parent’s starting point

Two pathways. Different stages of school.

Both are NSW public-school pathways for high potential and gifted students. Start with the learning environment your child needs, not just the test.

Opportunity Classes (OC)

Classes in participating primary schools for Years 5 and 6. OC is not a scholarship and does not guarantee a later selective high school place.

Selective High Schools

A secondary-school pathway for high potential and gifted students. This program focuses on Year 7 entry; later-year transfers follow a different process.

Your 2028 entry guide

Preparation, assessment, then school entry.

Official information checked: 15 September 2026

The NSW Education application and test pages checked still show the 2027-entry cycle. We have not found a confirmed 2028-entry timetable there. This is a planning guide based on the current year-level pathway, not an official schedule.

  1. 2026

    Build the foundations

Currently Year 3 for OC or Year 5 for Selective. CamLoc preparation starts in Term 4, with class times to be confirmed.

  2. 2027

    Expected assessment year

Under the current pathway, students test in Year 4 for OC or Year 6 for Selective. Exact dates for the 2028-entry cycle await official confirmation.

  3. 2028

    The school-entry year

Successful applicants enter Year 5 OC or Year 7 Selective. “2028 entry” refers to starting at the school.

Watch for applications early: the current process begins towards the end of Year 3 (OC) or Year 5 (Selective). Monitor official notices from 2026 rather than waiting for the test year. Opening and closing dates for 2028 entry still need official confirmation.

Enrolling with CamLoc does not lodge a NSW school application. Parents must apply separately through NSW Education and check eligibility and current requirements. Official application process (opens a new tab)

Questions worth asking

The right fit matters.

How do I know whether this pathway suits my child?

Talk with your child and their school teacher about challenge, learning needs and wellbeing. Consider the school environment and travel as well as academic interests. We can discuss course suitability, not predict an admission decision.

Is tutoring compulsory?

No. CamLoc enrolment is not a condition of applying. Families can use school support, independent preparation and official practice resources. Our role is to provide structured explanation, purposeful practice and feedback.

Are Selective and scholarship tests the same?

No. Independent-school scholarship assessments vary by school and provider. Some skills overlap, but this Selective program should not be treated as complete preparation for every scholarship assessment.

Can the program guarantee a place?

No. School offers are determined through the official selection process. We focus on understanding, reasoning and learning habits, without promises of rankings or admission.

When do classes begin?

We are planning a Term 4, 2026 start for students currently in Year 3 and Year 5. Exact dates and times are to be confirmed. You can register your interest first.
